BATTLE CREEK, MI, March 28, 2018– BC Vision partners will host a series of Pre-Employment Preparation Fairs (Prep) in the Battle Creek area on April 30, May 1 and May 3. The Prep Fairs will be followed by a Community Career Fair on May 3 where residents will have the opportunity to engage with local employers looking to fill local jobs with talented individuals who live in Battle Creek.
The Battle Creek Prep Fairs are a unique and innovative approach to engage individuals actively seeking employment in the Battle Creek community. The Prep Fairs are intended to provide individuals with the opportunity to meet with professionals to assist with developing or updating a work resume, receive coaching and instruction in interviewing skills, and receive a competitive edge in getting a job with one of the local employers.
In addition, individuals attending one of the Prep Fairs will also have the chance to meet with representatives from various community organizations for assistance in removing any potential barriers or personal obstacles (including housing, transportation, child care, mental and physical health, financial education, basic daily living needs, court involvement, etc.) that would prevent he/she from becoming and remaining employed.
For convenience of location and accessibility, the Prep Fairs are scheduled at various locations across the Battle Creek community.
Dates, times and locations for the Prep Fairs:
- Monday, April 30 from 4-6pm at Coburn Preschool Center, 38 Fairhome Avenue
- Tuesday, May 1 from 9-11am at Grace Health in the Sanitas Conference Room, 181 W. Emmett Street
- Tuesday, May 1 from 4:30-6:30pm at Post-Franklin Elementary School, 20 Newark Avenue
- Thursday, May 3 from 9am-1pm at Michigan Works SW!, 200 West Van Buren Street
Individuals who attend any one of the above Prep Fairs will receive a ticket to attend the Community Career Fair where they will have the opportunity to engage directly with local employers looking to hire talented individuals living in Battle Creek. The Community Career Fair will be held on Thursday, May 3. Additional information on the Career Fair will be given out upon completion of the Prep Fair.
“By bringing the needed services into the community at locations convenient to job seekers, we can eliminate some of the barriers to accessibility;” stated Ben Damerow, Director of Michigan Works! Southwest, “those services provided at the Prep Fairs, along with the employment readiness assistance, will help Battle Creek residents be better prepared for the face-to-face meetings with employers at the May 3 Career Fair.”
Employers and volunteers are still needed for the Prep Fair.
