BCVision is challenging community members to “Get Caught” moving Battle Creek forward through job creation and training, talent development, and community vitalization.
Bernie Kerschbaum, the April “Get Caught” campaign recipient, is the CEO of the local headquarters of Rosler Metal Finishing USA. Rosler employs 115 people, with over 60% of employees living in Battle Creek.
Bernie is more than just a CEO. He is an active business member in Battle Creek and a believer in Battle Creek schools. Bernie is the chair of Battle Creek’s Manufacturing Consortium, which includes representatives from roughly 70 different companies.
A Culture of Vitality
Bernie and Rosler are creating a culture of vitality in Battle Creek by helping the city thrive. Through Bernie, Rosler sponsors activities for the employees’ children, which includes supporting local teams for everything from sports to robotics. Bernie also ensures that students who are on the robotics teams are mentored by employees of Rosler.
Bernie recognizes that these students are the future of manufacturing. By providing mentorship, Battle Creek’s students are prepared to enter the workforce.
Keeping the Momentum Going
Bernie is passionate about bringing the business community together to help support the rest of Battle Creek. He knows that one facet of Battle Creek cannot survive without the other. Bernie is working to ensure that “schools are providing the right education for the future workforce,” and also striving to make sure “we have the resources we need for employees, especially people who are new employees and have come to live and work in Battle Creek.”
Bernie shares that the “Get Caught” recognition reinforces that what he is contributing to Battle Creek is helping the city to thrive. “What I do and what I encourage all other business leaders to do means a lot. I want to show that what we are doing is the right thing, and I hope that it inspires others.”
The Best Part
Bernie says that the best part about Battle Creek is the community. “It’s a great place to raise my kids. There’s a lot to do, but it’s small enough to run into people you know. Schools are large enough to provide academics and small enough that you can make connections with other parents.”
