Community Loan and Grant Fund Driving Success

January 24, 2019

Established in 2018, the BCVision Community Loan and Grant Fund is already driving success for Battle Creek business owners.

The Small Business Action Team, coordinated by BCVision, created the Small Business – Community Loan and Grant Fund with a goal to provide Battle Creek area small business owners with access to capital when other sources may be unavailable.

Chemical Bank, Old National Bank, and the Miller Foundation have contributed to the fund.

Local small business owners who have received funding are seeing the positive impact that the fund is having on their overall business success and future trajectory.

Margaret Kirk, owner of Massage Green Spa, was born and raised in Battle Creek and currently employs eight people in the area. Kirk stated that she found out about the Small Business Community Loan and Grant Fund at a networking event that focused on entrepreneurship. Since receiving the loan, Kirk has seen massive internal improvements at Massage Green Spa.

BCVision’s Small Business Action Team is comprised of community members working to ensure Battle Creek is home to a thriving small business economy.

“The need for this fund came directly from speaking with small business owners,” said Devon Gibson, Community Initiatives Associate at the Battle Creek Community Foundation. “Community partners worked together to create this fund so that business owners have access to capital which is key to creating a thriving small business environment.”
