It’s almost spring! Snow is melting in our historic city, and flowers are slowly beginning to sprout. We love Battle Creek in all seasons, but it looks especially beautiful this time of year.
We want to help our city show off its natural beauty, and we’re sure you do, too. Here are some tips on small things you can do around our community to make sure Battle Creek looks its best.
Toss Out Trash
The easiest way to keep our community beautiful is by throwing trash in the appropriate receptacle, and not tossing it on the ground. In fact, you’re probably already doing this. Great job! If you aren’t, it’s time to start putting garbage where it belongs: in the trash!
If you want to take it one step further, if you happen to be walking and see trash on the ground, take a second and pick it up and put it in the closest garbage receptacle. You can even join larger efforts to keep our city beautiful, like getting involved in a River Clean-Up Day. You can learn more about these days by clicking here.
Plant Some Color
Another easy way to brighten up our city this spring is to plant some flowers!
Even if you don’t have a yard you can plant in, you can purchase an inexpensive pot and some seeds. You can normally get all of the supplies you need for potted plants for under $15 and can even get a lot of your materials at a dollar store. Place your seedlings in your window and be sure to water your new friend. You’ll have a bright flower to help brighten your day in no time.
If you are part of a club or organization with its own property, try asking if other members would want to help plant flowers around the building. If you all band together, your efforts can go much farther. In fact, you may even be able to raise money collectively to purchase a flat of flowers. After all, everyone loves a good splash of natural color.
Spread the Joy
The easiest thing you can do this spring to help make Battle Creek shine is to simply smile at the people you meet. Our community is filled with amazing, friendly people. Spread the love by holding open a door for a stranger or smiling when you pass someone on the street.
If you want to take it a step further, try asking a friend out for lunch or coffee or even a walk. You can also invite your neighbors over for a potluck or send a nice note to someone who seems to be having a bad day.
These little acts of kindness go a long way towards brightening our community. Plus, what goes around comes around. If you start to put a conscious effort into improving others’ days, you’ll be surprised how much good will come back to you.
We love our city, and we know you do, too. This spring, let’s work together to make its natural beauty shine.
