Our country is facing a lot of uncertainty with the spread of the coronavirus, and it can be very overwhelming. The best thing you can do to support our Battle Creek community is to stay home to help stop the spread, but if you need a little break from binge watching, couch surfing and snack eating, here’s how you can help!
Check on Your Neighbors
One simple thing you can do is check on your neighbors, especially if they are a part of a vulnerable population. If you are healthy and able, offer to go on a grocery store run or pick up medications for a neighbor. One small gesture can go a long way.
Volunteer or Donate
Many community organizations are currently experiencing a shortage of volunteers. This is a great time to reach out to your local shelters and food pantries to see how you can help!
If you can’t volunteer your time, donate! You can donate unwanted clothing, perishable food, toiletries or money. If you’re unsure of where to volunteer or donate, check with The United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region to see what organizations are in need.
Support local businesses
Although many businesses have closed for the time being, there are some local restaurants that are open for takeout and delivery. Support your small local businesses by shopping on their online website, picking up lunch or buying a gift card to use later.
Please stay safe and healthy while you’re out volunteering or checking on a neighbor. Be sure to wash your hands and continue to practice social distancing in public by standing six feet away from each other.
